Welcome back to the office for all of you who had a nice long holiday weekend! I know mine was nice….spent time with my sister and the baby, then with Rico’s family and his sister’s new baby. Lots of babies (for other people of course, nothing on the horizon for us…I can promise you that)!!!! So I thought I’d start this week off as a bragging auntie and share the pictures we took this weekend of both of our new nieces. I know you saw Addy already, but I couldn’t resist sharing more pics, and we’ve been dying to do a shoot with Amalia and jumped at the chance when she came into town from Michigan for Thanksgiving! So enjoy the pictures, they’re pretty freaking cute if I do say so myself. Amalia & Addy, we love you and CAN’T WAIT to spoil you for YEARS to come (not that you’re reading this, although that would be impressive, I’ll leave it to your parents to relay the message). Also, I was going to include some nice tips for you all about photography prep for your wedding, but I think I’ll hold off on that for today and post later this week….I’ll let you enjoy the babies for now, because really, they are quite enjoyable.

Whenever I think about that EXTREMELY explosive diaper that I changed for Addy, I’m just going to come back to this picture…just look at that face, totally worth it.

Is it really Monday again? I must admit, it’s a tired one for me. We were in Carmel last week and then came home to an engagement session, maternity shoot, and then a trash the dress. Then on Friday my sister gave birth to her first child Adalyn Grace (two weeks early!). So even though I find myself on the tired side today, it was well worth it because this weekend was fabulous. I love newborns…how can you not?? I especially love this newborn (I’m biased)….just look at her though, hard not to! So today this blog post is going to be on the personal side as I introduce to you my beautiful niece Adalyn Grace. Sarah and Jon, I’m so proud of you, so proud of your strength and endurance and I know you’ll be amazing parents. I love you!

Happy Monday my friends! I hope you’re all enjoying the start of your week and that your day will be just a little bit better due to the Monday blog post! (my favorite part of Monday, I must admit). I have a good one for you today too. You might remember the Aguirres from a shoot we did with them a while back. They were that adorable family that looked like they came straight out of a magazine. So photogenic, so beautiful and fun to be around, yes that’s them. Well, they decided they wanted to do another shoot with us but this time with just the kids. They also wanted to start later in the day to incorporate some night shots, we love anything that’s a little different than the norm so we happily obliged. I don’t have to say much more about these kids because the pictures speak for themselves on just how adorable they are, so I’ll leave you to it! Thanks for a fabulous shoot once again Aguirres and can’t wait for more to come! Enjoy!

I know, it’s not Monday but here I am posting again…..I’m sorry, I can’t help it! I just had to share this family session with you! You’ll be thanking me once you take a look at their pictures, I promise. We met them at the Children’s Museum in Downtown San Diego for their family session. I love the Children’s Museum, I especially love their children’s “graffiti” wall which you might recognize from one of our previous shoots. We had such a great time spending a few hours with this family….it was definitely clear how much they care about each other, and how precious their daughter is to them. I love seeing that. And precious she is indeed! I see modeling in this one’s future, yes I do. Well, the entire family is beautiful, not to mention cool, check out the motorcycle. Thanks you three for allowing us into a few hours of your life, it was such a blessing and a joy. I look forward to working with you again in the future as your family grows!

One of my favorites…..

At first she was apprehensive about jumping from block to block without the help of her parents, this is a picture of when she decided that yes she could do it alone! I love watching people overcome fear….even the smallest kind. Look at how determined she is, I melted.

And another one of my favorites, well I love them all actually, but this one just gets me….reminds me of when I was a little girl and loved to twirl. To me, this picture captures childhood….that’s it, I’m twirling more often now.

What did I say? model!!!!

BENNETT family

It is indeed Monday! I wasn’t going to let you down two weeks in a row! And do I have a treat for you to make your Monday brighter or what? It’s the Bennett family!!!! You might recognize one of the couples in the photos below as Kevin and Sierra (featured all over our main website)…..we shot their wedding back in October and it was awesome to reconnect with them, this time with the entire family! It’s Kevin’s parents’ 30th anniversary, so in honor of that the kids wanted to do a session with the entire family….10 adults and 5 kids. Photo sessions can be a bit tricky when you have that many people, but we were up for the challenge! We love this family!!!!! So we enjoyed spending some time with them, their children and grandchildren in Balboa Park a couple of weeks ago. Quite a family of lookers too, don’t believe me? See for yourself! Bennetts, you were so much fun and I look forward to some more family shoots in the future!!

So, notice the birds? What perfect timing right? I know, I know, not many really want pigeons in their family pictures, but I just thought it was sweet so I shared….too bad it wasn’t a bald eagle….THAT would have been perfect.

AGUIRRE family

I know! It’s Tuesday and I’m a day late. I have really been trying to post every Monday, but had a FABULOUS photo shoot on Saturday (can’t WAIT to share) and then were out of town the rest of weekend at my sister’s graduation (Go Sarah!!!!). Valid excuses right? So, here I am, a day late, good thing I have a post that won’t disappoint. We did a family shoot in Balboa Park with this beautiful family recently, and it was ever so fantastic. The kids were PROS with being in front of the camera, which made for a smooth photo session. I loved the interaction between these three. It always makes me so happy to see close families and they definitely were. It made me excited for my future family (SEVERAL years from now) and the closeness that will bring. Thanks so much you three, I’m excited for our next shoot in a couple of weeks!

CASTILLERO parents

In honor of Mothers Day (or two days after Mothers Day to be exact) we thought we’d post a few pictures of some of our parents (Some of Rico’s to be exact, in case you’re wondering who passed down those good looks)! We did a shoot with them a while ago in Little Italy to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary and they rocked it. Yes, yes you did Motheresh, it’s true. Rico’s dad also blew me away with his cool serious look….like father, like son, I must say. Thanks you two for being such great parents and for spending a few hours with us and our cameras in your face. Congrats on 20 years! We love you!

THE hellars

So its been a week since our last post and today I was thinking “ WE NEED TO POST SOMETHING!” I am an avid blog reader, and when my favorite bloggers frequently post, it makes my day! What’s the point of having a blog if you don’t post often???? (yes yes, guilty of this…but I’m working on it, and I ask you to help keep me accountable….if the posts become less frequent, feel free to yell at me or gently prod at rachel@studiocastillero.com…sometimes we just need a little help from our friends). ANYWAYS, back to posting. So yes, it has been far too long and this blog is getting lonely. Unfortunately I don’t have any shoots to show you quite yet, although they are coming. We are just about ready to post the pictures from John and Kalida’s wedding, then Jenny and Ian’s wedding (so fab..you must check back) and then we had an engagement shoot with our new friends Marissa and Mike this last weekend that will be coming soon as well. Stay tuned my friends…..

Now since every blog post NEEDS a picture or two (or seven), I thought I’d share some from a family shoot we did recently (so I guess I DO have a shoot to show you). The Hellars are my dear friends from San Luis Obispo, and we’ve had the honor of documenting Aubrey’s first year (you can see her earlier pictures on our website if you’re interested). It has been so much fun to watch her change and grow so quickly….it amazes me how fast we grow up. So for your enjoyment, here are a few pictures to make your day brighter (yes, she is that cute…you can’t look at her and not be happy, impossible).
