“in december drinking horchata…..” OK, make that in March drinking margaritas BUT I’m listening to that song right now and it totally made me feel like posting today. Thank you Vampire Weekend! ANYWAY, yes, a Thursday post was in order this week since I know you’re all DYING to see pictures of our trip to Tahoe where we shot the wedding of Candice & Darren (see the post directly below this one). The wedding was on Saturday so we decided to go up a little early to have some time to hang out in Tahoe since I’d never been there before. It was BEAUTIFUL up there, which was good because I definitely didn’t pack for really cold weather (it’s the San Diegan in me). While we were there we walked around Tahoe City, took some pictures at the lake, stared at people (I have a problem), AND found a top notch Mexican place with some of the best margaritas I’ve had in a long time and those of you who know me know how picky I am when it comes to my margaritas. Thank you Blue Agave for making our trip just a little more pleasant and for investing in the Vita-mix blender because that seriously makes a world of difference. Oh vita-mix, sigh. SOOOO, it was such a blessing to spend some time with my dear friend Carleigh who drove from San Fran and met us in Tahoe (thanks for letting us stay in your cabin oxoxoxo). I wish we lived closer!!! Alright, so with that I leave you with some pictures of our trip, FYI no fancy dresses, or pro hair and makeup here, so enjoy my wind blown not enough sleep look…keeping it real right??? MUAH!

And a little bit of news to keep you all in the know. As I announced a while ago, our 2010 dates were full for wedding bookings, but we have decided to open up to doing one or two more (we love weddings, what can I say?). SOOOO, if you know anyone getting married this year still needing a photog, we have limited availability BUT send them our way anyway. We have many spots open for 2011 as well and July is filling up fast so get on that advance planning head start….never hurts to book early while we’re still offering our 2010 rates as well (wink wink). Ok ok, NOW for the pictures.

ULTRAMAGEDDON

Hey there internet friends! We just thought we’d post a little something to start your weekend off right (happy Friday btw…who doesn’t love Fridays right?). This past week Rico had the opportunity to attend the Ultramegeddon workshop with Mr. Roboto himself, Jeff Newsom. Jeff has always been an inspiration to us in our photography so it was awesome to be able to meet with him and learn from him. Well, you can’t get a bunch of photogs together without doing a shoot, so I just wanted to share some of the visual goodness that Rico shot while at the workshop. Alright, so today’s post is just a BIT awkward for me…the things we do for sweet pictures right? The reason for this is evident in the first picture which is a giant picture of my face! HOWEVER, as much as I am NOT A FAN of getting my picture taken, Rico and I couldn’t resist doing a shoot in this fabulous downpour we’ve been having in San Diego this week. Since it was just the two of us, we had to pick one person to shoot and one to be the subject. Alas, my long hair betrayed me! It just looks so much better when soaked. So, there you have it, go easy on me, I’m not photogenic so instead just focus on how awesome the rain is, and how it makes for some pretty mean (in a good way) pictures. Happy Thursday my friends!

And yes, the umbrella was definitely just for show…normally it does work better than that.

HAITI …a tribute

So again, it’s the end of the week and I find myself back on the blog. This blog post however, is slightly different, no weddings or engagements, but a tribute. I’m sure you all know about the earthquake in Haiti that has left thousands dead and many more injured and homeless. Rico and I had the opportunity a couple of years ago to visit Haiti with the organization that I work for during the week (yep, I do have another job right now doing HR for seriously one of the best organizations around…how lucky am I?) called Plant With Purpose. One of the countries that PWP works in is Haiti and they brought Rico and I along to do some photography and visit the field. Seriously fell in love with the Haitian people, so hospitable, so beautiful, and so joyful. Our hearts are broken over this tragedy, over the loss of life, the loss of homes, and the loss of hope that a lot of these people are experiencing….People that greeted us personally with open arms, let us sleep in their homes, let us eat their food, let us listen to their stories. As fellow humans, brothers, and sisters, we need to reach out to the Haitian people the best way that we can, whether that be through donating, photography tributes, or even just your prayers. Please join with Rico and I as we celebrate this beautiful country and amazing people, praying for safety during this time of immediate need and then hope and endurance for the many months of recovery and rebuilding ahead. Below are pictures that we took while in Haiti, please take a look and see who it is you’re praying for and supporting, they really are quite fabulous (referring to the subjects of course, not the photos). Love you all!

If you would like to make a donation to the immediate relief efforts we recommend donating to the Red Cross or World Vision. If you would like to donate to the recovery and rebuilding efforts that will take place for the months to come then I recommend donating to Plant With Purpose.

Welcome back to the office for all of you who had a nice long holiday weekend! I know mine was nice….spent time with my sister and the baby, then with Rico’s family and his sister’s new baby. Lots of babies (for other people of course, nothing on the horizon for us…I can promise you that)!!!! So I thought I’d start this week off as a bragging auntie and share the pictures we took this weekend of both of our new nieces. I know you saw Addy already, but I couldn’t resist sharing more pics, and we’ve been dying to do a shoot with Amalia and jumped at the chance when she came into town from Michigan for Thanksgiving! So enjoy the pictures, they’re pretty freaking cute if I do say so myself. Amalia & Addy, we love you and CAN’T WAIT to spoil you for YEARS to come (not that you’re reading this, although that would be impressive, I’ll leave it to your parents to relay the message). Also, I was going to include some nice tips for you all about photography prep for your wedding, but I think I’ll hold off on that for today and post later this week….I’ll let you enjoy the babies for now, because really, they are quite enjoyable.

Whenever I think about that EXTREMELY explosive diaper that I changed for Addy, I’m just going to come back to this picture…just look at that face, totally worth it.

Is it really Monday again? I must admit, it’s a tired one for me. We were in Carmel last week and then came home to an engagement session, maternity shoot, and then a trash the dress. Then on Friday my sister gave birth to her first child Adalyn Grace (two weeks early!). So even though I find myself on the tired side today, it was well worth it because this weekend was fabulous. I love newborns…how can you not?? I especially love this newborn (I’m biased)….just look at her though, hard not to! So today this blog post is going to be on the personal side as I introduce to you my beautiful niece Adalyn Grace. Sarah and Jon, I’m so proud of you, so proud of your strength and endurance and I know you’ll be amazing parents. I love you!

CARLEIGH birthday

Happy Thursday everyone! Today is a special day because it’s the birthday of a very dear friend of mine. Carleigh and I were roommates for several years during college and have remained close since then. She is dear to my heart and one of the handful of people I know that truly understands me (a tough task too, I kid you not). Carleigh, I love you and I wish you the best on your birthday. I know you’re heartbroken because of Poppy’s passing, but I just know he’s watching you right now and is celebrating (along with all of us) your life and the beautiful strong woman you’ve become. Thank you for being such a blessing to me and and to everyone around you (I know there are a lot of you out there that feel equally as blessed to have Carleigh in your life).

In honor of Carleigh’s birthday I thought I’d post the wedding video we made for her this past July (if you look closely you might just spot me, I’m one of the bridesmaids). I love you Carlosita and Happy Birthday!!!! xoxoxo

MONDAY! Our favorite day right???? Yeah, probably not so much, but that is why we have Monday blog posts…to try and make the day just a little bit better. Today’s post has a slightly more personal note to it because it contains pictures of us! We find ourselves documenting others so much that sometimes we forget to take pictures of us, and our life. Also, we thought it was about time you got to see what we look like, so if you ever find yourself in Bankers Hill and you see us, you have to say hi (hugs are welcome too, people tend to like hugging Rico…can’t say I blame them). No excuses people! You have seen our faces! Just a warning though, for this shoot I wore a lot of makeup (ok friends, pick those jaws up off the floor). Makeup is a RARE occasion for me, and I actually had to read about how to do eye liner (I know, kinda sad right? LOL). I had a great time though embracing my inner stylist, so I’m thinking the makeup might have to stick around. SO ANYWAYS, details of the shoot…Rico and I headed out to the wilderness of San Diego, just the two of us, to play around with our cameras and hopefully get some good pictures for the site. Recently we’ve been inspired by the fabulous catalogs that Anthropolgie puts out, so we wanted give these pictures an “Anthropolgie-esq” feel. Hence the setting, the lighting, the editing, more serious poses, vintage cameras (gotta take some pictures of us with cameras, we are photogs after all!) etc, etc. I will admit, I have a hard time in front of the camera so this was very difficult for me, but just as I tell all our clients, by the end I felt completely comfortable. Alright alright, enough of my talking….you can check out our little endeavor below. I hope you like them! Until next post……

I’ve just been busting out the blog posts this week! Yesterday we had an engagement session in Balboa Park with a sweet couple named, Jeremy and Jodi. I’m not going to share their pictures JUST YET, but I wanted to post today so I thought I’d include a few, a teaser if you will. At one point during the shoot they went for a clothing change and Rico and I had some fun just playing around with the camera. So THOSE are the main pictures I’m posting today. What better way to start the weekend than with pictures of Rico breakdancing, because lets be honest, that’s the real reason for this post. So although a random selection, I’m posting because we just really like photos! Enjoy!

NINA kitty

Well internet, it is Monday and I have decided it is time for you to be introduced to a very important member of our family. Nina is our crazy sweet cat. She has several roles in our family: guarding the house while we’re away, scratching the laundry hamper, helping us keep the house free of anything plastic (she eats it…it’s an addiction really but she’s working on it), sleeping and sleeping oh and sleeping some more, and most importantly giving love to Rico. She loves me too, but Rico is who she lives for, and if you ever want to find her just look for Rico and she’ll be sitting there, just staring at him and purring loudly. Her favorite thing to do, besides stare at Rico, is to sleep….SO I thought I’d share a few pics of Nina doing what she does best: sleeping and staring. Nina, you’re not reading this, but we love you anyways. May you continue to sleep and get fat and stare at Rico…it’s what makes you you.

Now I understand the following picture could be borderline inappropriate, but I just love her little toes with black spots on them, it had to be shared.

This is one of my favorites and I feel it displays perfectly how Nina likes to sleep, on her back, legs spread wide for the world to see…..I guess we should teach her to be more lady like, but look at her, it’s just so dang cute!
