Well, we did it. We rebranded. Although this may seem like we’re just throwing this on you, Lord knows most of us are not fans of change. BUT, Rico and I have been working on this rebrand for MONTHS and we are so happy to finally be able to show you (we did all the design ourselves…Rico is a genius don’t you think?)! I feel like we just gave birth to our first child (I know, I’m weird) so as all new parents like to do, we just had to share. Also, an order of business. We will be leaving this blog up for a little while but since the link has changed to our new blog we won’t be updating here. Well here we are again, our Monday “meeting place.” Just you and me and the rad couple we’re posting. How was your weekend? Did you miss me? I thought so. Rico and I had one wedding this weekend that kicked some major wedding ass if you ask me. Go view the glimpse HERE and you’ll see what I mean. mmm…mmmm…mmm.

And with that I’ll keep this short, BUT not before I tell you about Jen and Jaron. When these two first emailed saying they found us on Green Wedding Shoes, I KNEW it was going to be a good one. Then we met them for their engagement session and it sealed the deal, head over heels for these two, head over heels. They were married at Happy Trails Catering in Pasadena and man was it a good one.Complete with  parking in alleys, pushing our way through CROWDS of hipsters (seriously like 1000s), shooting in front of the mac store, and jumping off walls. They played games, danced awkwardly (word up father/daughter dance), and sang/played in their own wedding band. To top it all off they gave us a mix of songs they recorded together that kept us entertained on the drive home. Jen and Jaron, are you for real? People like you do not come along that often so you know what that means…you’re stuck with us for a LONG TIME. Thank you for being awesome and fun, AND for having such impeccable taste. Muah!

Guess what??? Rico and I had the day off yesterday! I know, monumental. So that means I only needed ONE cup of coffee this morning to go along with my blueberry soy milk smoothie and my pickled beets (breakfast of champions).  Rico and I had such a special weekend, with an engagement session of a couple of triathletes and a wedding of two of the sweetest people I’ve ever met. So I’m feeling good and ready for what this week holds, first of which is sharing a couple who is very near to my heart.

HOWEVER, before that I have a little propostion for you all. I have been getting a lot of emails lately from current and aspiring photographers asking questions about photography. I love all your questions and I love that you’re reaching out, it just takes me a little while to respond sometimes because my inbox is crazy… a dark place that inbox. A few years ago a photographer I love offered a little meet up at a coffee shop here in San Diego which we attended and the relationships and knowledge that came out of it were invaluable. Since that helped us so much, I thought I’d offer the same. SOOOOOO, not sure there is even anyone interested, but I’m thinking of scheduling a meet up for sometime in the next two weeks on a weeknight at a coffee shop just to meet, hang out, answer any questions. I want to keep it somewhat small so if you’re interested send me an email to rachel@studiocastillero.com and the first 6 people/couples who respond will receive the details of the meet up. Sound good? do it now. boom.

And with that I give you the FANTASTIC Luca and Carly. Oh man, these two…I love them. Luca is a good friend of mine from college in SLO. I have such fond memories of too much nutella on french bread, MANY nights at Garappolo’s, hours of excel accounting homework bashing, and eating pasta in the middle of the night. They were married at the San Luis Obispo Mission on a rainy day in June. It was beautiful, the food was amazing (Luca is from Italy and has quite the taste for good Italian food), the details were exactly “them”, and the day went off without a hitch..even with the rain.  Luca, you are such a sweet part of my college experience and I don’t know what it would have been like without you. Carly, I have only met you recently but I must say, I adore you just as much…the two of you are a prime pair and I couldn’t have picked someone better for Luca. Next time we’re in town we must get together for some wine tasting and nutella..yes, mmmmmmm. In the meantime, enjoy! xoxo

Hopefully by now you’ve all had your coffee and are ready for the week to start. I’m there. I love coffee…mmmmmmmmmm. Rico and I had another packed weekend with two weddings perfectly finished off with a dinner at Spread with two lovelies (xoxo Josh and Ariel). And here we are, EDITING our brains out, and prepping for the engagement shoots and weddings coming up this week. Life is good eh? I think so.

Today we’re going to share with you a boudoir shoot Rico and I did last week (in our dining room) with our FABULOUS hairstylist and friend Mish. Not only is Mish a genius at keeping my hair tame but she’s also an extremely talented wedding hair stylist. Seriously, she’s a true artist and I fully recommend her if you’re in need of the BEST HAIR EVER for your wedding. We were ecstatic when we had the opportunity to do this this shoot with Mish, and I really love this because it is a perfect example of how boudoir can be anything you want it to be and still be just as beautiful. Who says you have to sit around in your chonies and take off your clothes? Not us! We can make your boudoir shoot anything you like, one requirement is that it’s YOU and that you feel comfortable. Got it? good. Sooooooooo, Mish obviously rocked this shoot and I could not wait to share it with you, so here you go!

And OF COURSE a shout out is in need for Rita Nguyen, the talented makeup artist who did Mish’s makeup. AMAZING!

How are we all doing today? I’m doing quite well, thanks for asking. I had a delicious rice milk latte from Rebecca’s this morning so I started the morning off on the right foot, AND I’m prepping for a few days in Palm Springs with my sister and fam so DOUBLE right foot (yes, it’s possible).  Rico and I had a pretty chill weekend with a relaxing wedding at Bali Hai on Saturday and a fun e-sesh in mission bay last night. I was even able to attend a baby shower of a friend yesterday (you wedding photogs know how rare it is to attend weekend events). So here I am, good mood. BOOM.

Teale and Justin also put me in a good mood…that’s why I’m sharing their engagement session with you today, good moods all around my friends! We met up with them in Ramona for some epic e-sesh action and it didn’t disappoint. We met them for the first time that day and they were just as I had imagined them, easy going, fun, AND ridiculously good looking (I know, I always say it but we do have such hot clients!). Teale is a wedding photographer herself, which always makes me a bit nervous (and flattered they chose us to shoot their wedding…thanks Teale!!), but as soon as I met her I was like, yes, perfect fit. Seriously you two, we adore you both. We love that you have brought us along as part of your story and we can’t WAIT for your wedding..a few more months! xoxo

Rico and I survived the weekend! YES! A double header weekend in opposite ends of the state, with very LITTLE sleep (and some painful feet!) could not have been accomplished if it wasn’t for the rad peeps we got to shoot. Haley, Brody, Jarvis, and Lydia thanks for being the best EVER and for making a job that could be very challenging feel like a piece of cake. Rico and I are in some need of some down time and some sleep catch up so this will have to be short, but I wanted to share with you a few pics from this weekend just so you can at least have a taste of the epic-ness that went down. Sooooooooo, I’m sitting here on like cup number 5 of coffee and thinking about our whirlwind weekend full of two engagement shoots, three client consults, and one wedding attended as guests (yes, I’m sore from dancing). So between the consults and the shoots we got to spend time with 10 of our AMAZING 2012 clients…and you know what? I adore all 10 of them, which leaves me feeling incredibly lucky. Just the push I need to address my out of control inbox…yes, it’s a problem.  Thank goodness for coffee and Adele!
Speaking of 2012 couples I adore! Chelsea and Zach! Seriously. Again, how lucky are we? Just take a look at the images below and you’ll see just what I’m talking about. We spent some time with these two up in Encinitas a while ago and I fell in love with them. Chelsea, Zach, thank you for making our job not a job at all, but good times AND for being so patient with my pesky crutches, which are gone now and I’m ready to get down at you 2012 wedding! I’m STILL having issues with my email so if you emailed me and haven’t heard back from me it’s probably because my email has decided to launch a revolt against me (it’s had enough of my workaholism…hmmmmm), and I am NOT ignoring you. Today we’re going to share the engagement session of Ann and Steven to share with you. We met up with these two on a rainy day in Golden Gate Park and together we wandered around in the rain, made them kiss a lot, and ate pie. It was exactly what we all needed on a rainy day if you ask me. Below is what came out of our little day in the park and I must say I’m quite pleased, as I’m sure you will be too. Ann and Steven we cannot wait for your EPIC San Fran wedding in the fall….counting the days my friends, counting the days. Until then, enjoy some esesh glory! muah!
